You know your pool has a filter, but do you know when and how to clean it?
We stress the importance of cleaning your pool filters! Why? When you have a clean pool filter, you are actively making a significant impact on the quality of your pool's water.
Why Is It So Important?
A clean filters means your pool can properly filter the water. This is essential to not only achieving but maintaining safe, crystal clear water.
Over time, your filter gets dirty because of debris and chemicals. If you don’t properly clean it, your pool filter will get clogged. This means it won’t work as well.
Ultimately, you end up with poor water quality, cloudy water, and even bacteria growth. What’s more, your filter is vital for the circulation of your pool water. The filter helps spread chemicals and ensures your pool is clean and clear.
It's important to create and maintain a regular cleaning schedule. This keeps you on track and increases the lifetime of your pool and pool equipment.

The Different Types of Filters
Depending on the type of filter in your swimming pool, each one requires different maintenance schedules.
- For sand filters: backwash them weekly. Use your filter cleaner at least once every pool season.
- For DE filters, clean them at least once every season as well.
- For cartridge filters, clean them weekly. You can reduce that to monthly if you don’t use your pool often. But always check it weekly so you learn when the best time is to clean your filter.
